Where do I access and analyse GenV data?

The environment used will depend on the data approved for your proposal and any requirements of relevant data custodians.

There are two main analysis environments:

• If you are accessing only GenV-held data, you will use a GenV supported Amazon WorkSpace
• If your data access includes linked data sets via the Centre for Victorian Data Linkage (CVDL), you will use CVDL’s Victorian Data Access Linkage Trust (VALT) environment

How do I access my analysis environment?

Once your proposal has been approved and all onboarding requirements have been completed, the Project Lead will be able to request access to the analysis environment for themselves and other team members. Requests for GenV supported Amazon WorkSpaces are submitted via the Research Portal. Access to the Centre for Victorian Data Linkage’s analysis environment (Victorian Data Access Linkage Trust) will be organised external to the Research Portal and you will be provided guidance and information on this.

What software and computing tools are available?

The software and computing resources available depend on your approved analysis environment and workspace configuration. Commonly available tools include statistical software, programming environments, data visualisation tools, geospatial tools, development environments, and office productivity applications.

What can I import into and export from the analysis environment?

You can request the transfer of approved files into and out of your analysis environment, including items such as data files, documents, code, scripts, and research outputs. All file transfers are subject to review and approval to ensure they meet security, privacy, and governance requirements.
